Commuters faced long delays on Monday evening as a signal failure at Choi Hung Station left services on the MTR's Kwung Tong Line severely disrupted.
The signal failure happened at about 7.20pm and forced trains to operate slowly in the area for more than an hour. Journey times between Whampoa and Tiu Keng Leng increased by almost 20 minutes and trains ran at intervals of as little as 12 minutes.
Large crowds of passengers gathered on the platforms at stations along the line. Major road in the area were also congested as passengers sought other means of getting to their destinations.
The problems were eventually resolved just before 9pm, and services returned to normal soon afterwards.
