A motion proposed by New People's Party lawmaker Regina Ip to censure democrat Ted Hui has received overwhelming support from pro-government councillors.
At a meeting of Legco's House Committee, they said Hui should be held responsible for snatching a mobile phone from an official last week.
But pan-democratic lawmakers defended their colleague, saying while his action was wrong, a motion of censure that could strip him of his seat is disproportionate.
They also said Hui only snatched the phone because he suspected that the official was monitoring the lawmakers' every move.
Hong Kong First legislator Claudia Mo said that's a practice that must stop.
