A minibus driver has been given a two-month suspended jail term for knocking down and killing an elderly woman in Sham Shui Po.
Law Chi-Keung, 67, admitted a charge of careless driving after running over the 72-year-old scavenger at a crossing near the junction of Fuk Wa Street and Yen Chow Street in November 2017.
Law was earlier acquitted of dangerous driving causing death, after the court decided he might not have seen the woman because of her small body size.
The accident was caught on CCTV cameras and District Court judge Douglas Yau described the footage as "shocking".
But he also noted that Law was troubled by what had happened.
In sparing Law a prison term, Yau said he was taking into account the fact that the defendant was helping to take care of his two young grandchildren, and one of them has cerebral palsy.
The judge said the family could have struggled if he Law was put behind bars.
