The driver of a minibus died and 16 passengers were injured after the vehicle they were travelling flipped and crashed onto a boundary wall on Shing Mun Tunnel Road heading towards Sha Tin on Monday morning.
The accident happened at around 8:30am near Mei Chung Court.
The badly damaged minibus ended up on its side and the driver was trapped inside. The 67-year-old suffered serious head injuries and was certified dead after being rushed to Yan Chai Hospital.
None of the passengers suffered serious injuries and most of them received attention at the crash site.
Police traffic inspector Wu Shing-tai said officers were looking into the driver's mental state and the speed at which he was driving.
Wu said initial investigations suggested that mechanical failure was not to blame for the smash.
The police said the driver had driven the route, between Shek Lei Estate and Sha Tin Wai for two years, and it was his third trip of the day.
