The Transport Department said on Thursday that it is offering a one-off, free body check to taxi and minibus drivers in an attempt to encourage them to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Some elderly residents and people with chronic conditions are hesitant about receiving the jabs as they are worried about side effects and not sure if they are suitable to get vaccinated.
The department said minibus and taxi drivers can sign up for a check at 10 designated clinics between July 15 and August 14.
The drivers will be screened for diabetes and anaemia, and have their cholesterol levels checked.
Their blood pressure and body fat percentage will also be measured.
Drivers will be given a health report that will be explained by a medical practitioner.
“The purpose of the health check is to help the drivers concerned understand their health conditions and decide whether they are suitable for vaccination,” the government said.
“A limited quota is available for the free health check services on a first-come, first-served basis.”
Meanwhile, Hong Kong's coronavirus situation remains stable, with the Centre for Health Protection reporting three imported Covid-19 cases on Thursday.
The infected travellers flew in from the UK, Russia and the Philippines.
