  • Maria Tam named new Basic Law Committee vice-chair

Beijing loyalist Maria Tam has replaced Elsie Leung as a vice-chairwoman of the Basic Law Committee, the body which advises the central government on the Hong Kong's mini-constitution.

The 72-year-old's promotion comes as part of a reshuffle of the 12-member panel, which comes under the National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC).

Pro-establishment lawmaker Priscilla Leung has also been made a member of the Basic Law Committee.

Another deputy head of the body, Zhang Rongshun is being replaced by Zhang Yong, a member of the NPCSC’s Legislative Affairs Commission.
