The High Court on Tuesday sentenced a 55-year-old man to 11 years in prison for raping and molesting his Indonesian helper within days after she was employed.
Tsang Wai-sun was found guilty of molesting the maid twice in December 2017 at his home in Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate, and of raping her on two separate days the same month.
He was arrested after the victim sought help from the Indonesian Consulate.
The court heard that the victim, who was 27 years old at the time, suffered from serious post-traumatic stress disorder, and had harboured thoughts of self-mutilation and suicide.
In sentencing, Justice Patrick Li said Tsang had breached his duties as an employer, and had abused his authority by violating his victim.
The judge said the sentence must reflect society’s disgust at such crimes, as well as the humiliation the helper suffered.
