Customs officers have arrested a 30-year-old man after finding a small amount of cannabidiol (CBD) oil in an inspection of an air mail parcel at the airport on Monday. The package, declared as skin oil from Denmark, was found to contain two bottles with about 60 milliliters of suspected CBD oil.

It's the first case involving suspected CBD products since they were brought under the same strict control as dangerous drugs on February 1.

The man was detained on Wednesday when customs officers delivered the package to his office in Yau Ma Tei.

They found two more bottles of suspected CBD oil and four grams of suspected cannabis buds in a subsequent search of his work place.

In a later search of his home in Tseung Kwan O, officers found a grinder containing traces of suspected cannabis.

Customs estimates the market value of the cannabis and CBD oil at about HK$5,000.

The department said with the commencement of the regulation of CBD, it will step up enforcement action to intercept the import and transit movements of the products in various channels.

It will also continue to apply risk assessment strategy to select passengers, cargoes and postal packets for clearance to combat transnational drug trafficking activities.
