Police on Friday said they have arrested a 23-year-old man who allegedly masturbated on a double-decker bus and jumped off the vehicle to escape last month.

Officers said they received a report on May 17 from a female passenger on the lower deck of a bus travelling along Nathan Road in Yau Ma Tei, saying that the man had performed a sex act next to her.

The man then ran to the upper deck of the bus and broke a window to escape, the force said.

Officers said he is believed to be connected to three other similar cases from April to May.

"The man had broken a window and jumped off the bus from the upper deck to escape. His irresponsible action had put the safety of other road users at risks, and could result in even more serious traffic accidents," said chief inspector Lam Pak-kiu.

The case has been classified as outraging public decency and criminal damage.
