Police on Sunday said they arrested a 37-year-old man after he allegedly attacked four people in Kowloon City.
The force said the man is suspected of attacking a woman and stealing her phone, attacking a man who tried to stop him, punching a car driver, and using a rubbish bin to attack a guest house worker.
The suspect first kicked a 67-year-old female passerby and snatched her mobile phone on Carpenter Road at around 1pm. When a 60-year-old man tried to intercept him, the suspect used the mobile phone to attack him.
He then fled towards Nga Tsin Wai Road. At one point, the man had grabbed a butcher's knife from a wet market which he used to smash the windscreen of a car at the intersection of Hau Wong Road and Nga Tsin Wai Road. He dropped the knife afterwards, but punched the 27-year-old driver.
The suspect ended up in a tenement building on Prince Edward Road West and set ablaze some items outside a door. He then attacked a 69-year-old staff member of a guest house, and finally, hid in a room there.
Officers said they arrested the man at the guesthouse at around 2.30pm for suspected robbery, criminal damage, wounding and arson.
The force believes that he did not know any of the victims personally and clarified that the man had not used a knife to attack any of them.
Police said the suspect had come to Hong Kong from the mainland as a visitor last September and is due to depart in April. Investigations are ongoing.
