A 72-year-old man was sent to hospital on Saturday after reporting that he felt unwell shortly after receiving a Covid-19 jab.
He's one of about 7,000 people who received Covid-19 vaccinations on Saturday, taking the total number of people inoculated to 13,600.
The man was inoculated with a Sinovac vaccine at the Kwun Chung Sports Centre in Jordan, which is being operated as a vaccination centre by Virtus Medical and the Association of Private Medical Specialists of Hong Kong.
Responding to media inquiries, Virtus Medical said the man had hypertension, and started developing heart palpitation while resting at the centre after the injection.
He was then taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is now said to be in stable condition, the medical group said.
Virtus Medical added there’s no evidence so far to suggest the heart palpitation was directly related to the inoculation.
The mainland-made Sinovac vaccine is the only vaccine available for inoculation in Hong Kong at the moment, while the government says vaccines manufactured by German drugmaker BioNtech – which arrived on Saturday – will be open for booking sometime next week.
