Liberal Party leader Felix Chung says the party will probably stop running for directly elected seats in future Legco polls.
The decision follows Beijing's decision to reform the SAR's electoral system.
Earlier this week, the Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, announced that September 19 was the poll date for the electoral committee to select 40 of the 90 seats in the Legislative Council.
LegCo elections are set for December 19, while the chief executive elections are set for March 27, 2022.
Beijing’s reforms will reduce the number of directly elected seats at Legco to 20, from 35 previously.
Chung told an RTHK programme that only political parties who do a lot of community work will have an advantage in the election, putting the Liberal Party at a disadvantage.
