A body representing security staff has complained that a few of its members have been subjected to doxxing, after chaotic scenes in Legco two weeks ago that saw guards carry scuffle with pro-democracy lawmakers who were trying to stop the proceedings.
The chaos at a special House Committee prompted former councillor Nathan Law of Demosisto to point out on Facebook that several senior Legco security guards are former police officers. Others then posted more personal information about the guards on Telegram chat groups.
The Institute of Registered Security Trainers also accused Law of smearing Legco's senior security by saying they are a club for "former corrupt officers".
Priscilla Leung from the Business and Professionals Alliance is helping the guards, and she accused the doxxers of trying to intimidate them.
"There's only one purpose, it's to scare them with violence, try to deter them from performing their duties professionally," Leung told reporters.
Law, however, denied he carried out any doxxing and said nor did he encourage any action against the security guards.
He said the information about them was in the public domain and he gathered it from the likes of Legco documents.
"These senior security guards in the Legislative Council are ex-police officers. And that is a fact," Law told RTHK.
"I just wanted to point out that a lot of legislators are considering that the current form of action from these security guards is much more violent than before."
Last week, pro-democracy lawmakers accused Legco security staff of siding with the pro-government camp and using police-style tactics to subdue them during another chaotic House Committee meeting last week.
The Democratic Party's Ted Hui was sent to hospital with an injury to his chest wall after he was pinned to the floor by Legco security staff during the melee, while his colleague Andrew Wan said he was struck around the waist.
