A man with just a learner's licence has been arrested on suspicion of furious driving and other offences, after he tried to escape from police by going the wrong way down a major tunnel.

He was initially stopped at a road block on the Tsing Kwai Highway around 2am on Monday but then sped away. A policeman was hurt in the process.

Officers tried to chase him down the Cheung Tsing Tunnel, where he then drove over the speed limit down an oncoming lane.

The 46-year-old was eventually arrested after his vehicle rammed into road side railings on Castle Peak Road near Sham Tseng.
