Members of the city’s legal profession were holding yet another silent march on Wednesday, this time to demand the establishment of a commission of inquiry into events arising from the extradition bill controversy.

Hundreds of lawyers joined the march from the Court of Final Appeal to Justice Place,

It’s only the sixth time that lawyers have staged such a protest since the handover in 1997, but the second in just over a month related to the contentious extradition bill.

On June 6, a record 3,000 legal professionals joined a rally against the government’s planned law changes.

One of those taking part in Wednesday's protest, former Bar Association chairman Alan Leong, said the authorities have to move quickly to save Hong Kong.

"Because our system is deteriorating at a speed that is totally unacceptable. Unless we do something to regain the trust and confidence of not only Hong Kong, but also of the international community and in the Hong Kong legal system, we are doomed," he said.
