Chief Executive John Lee said he hopes the Happy Hong Kong campaign will boost local spending and have a positive impact on the economy.
Lee on Friday officiated at the launch ceremony of the campaign at the M+ museum.
He said he hopes the campaign will make people happy and spend more, benefiting various industries such as retail and catering.
Lee noted that the city’s reaction to Happy Hong Kong has been enthusiastic, with tickets for food fairs distributed within hours and several non-government groups organising more events.
“With the immense energy of Hong Kong and people’s smiling faces, we can tell the world good Hong Kong stories,” he said.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan, who was also at the launch ceremony, said he believes the local economy will improve in the second and third quarters thanks to higher consumption.
Campaign activities will kick off on Saturday, highlighted by the Happy Hong Kong Gourmet Marketplace at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.
