The by-election for the Kowloon West Legco seat that fell vacant after Lau Siu-lai's disqualification will be held on November 25, the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) said on Tuesday.
The nomination period is scheduled to end by the third week of October, as per EAC regulations.
Lau was removed from office over the way she took her lawmaker oath in a case brought by the government that also saw Nathan Law, Leung Kwok-hung and Edward Yiu ousted from the Legislative Council.
She had initially lodged an appeal against the court decision, but dropped that bid last month, saying the process was taking too long and she is now drained both mentally and financially.
Following the poll date announcement, Lau said the poll date was month earlier than what she expected.
She said she will discuss with her team on whether she will seek re-election, and that the pro-democracy camp will need to come to a consensus on its strategy as soon as possible.
Earlier, she had thrown her support behind veteran pan-democrat Lee Cheuk-yan and promoted him as a suitable candidate if she was barred from contesting.
Former health secretary Ko Wing-man is reportedly interested in taking part in the by-election.
