Veteran social activist Koo Sze-yiu was arrested by the police on Monday afternoon for allegedly desecrating Hong Kong SAR and national flags at two separate protests last year.
Koo reported to the police headquarters in Wan Chai to face arrest by appointment.
Flanked by supporters, he said the offences are alleged to have taken place on July 1 and October 1.
Koo said he expects he could be jailed for up to eight months if he is convicted.
The activist has been prosecuted several times in the past for similar offences.
He also vowed to be the first person to disrespect the national anthem if lawmakers pass new legislation they are currently examining which would make "insulting" the anthem a criminal offence.
