The government has asked Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) to explain why it arranged extra cross-harbour buses on a night when extradition bill protesters laid siege to police headquarters in Wan Chai.
KMB had laid on additional buses for the special 104R route in the early morning of June 22 to carry passengers from the police headquarters area to Mong Kok.
The Transport Department on Friday demanded a detailed explanation from the franchised bus company, noting that such special services are usually only provided during big events or festivals, and require prior approval from the department.
KMB responded that it makes flexible arrangements in accordance with the needs of the public, in order to speed up passenger flow.
It said it will provide information to the department in relation to the special arrangement made that night.
