Sources say health officials are asking kindergarten and childcare centres to suspend classes for a week if there is a flu outbreak among its students.
Some kindergartens said on Friday they have already received government notice about the closure.
The Centre for Health Protection is set to announce details of its anti-flu measures on Friday afternoon.
The undersecretary for food and health, Chui Tak-yi, said there has been a rapid rise in flu outbreaks in kindergartens and childcare centres and it is causing concern.
The deputy minister also said the authorities are now considering whether vaccinate students at primary schools, kindergartens and childcare centres.
Hong Kong is in the winter peak flu-season, and one kindergarten in Tsing Yi run by the English Schools Foundation has suspended classes this week after 17 pupils fell ill.
