The government said that the Kai Tak isolation facility, which started operation on Friday morning, has received about 60 Covid patients as at 6pm.
The facility is managed by an anti-epidemic task force under the Security Bureau.
In a statement, a spokesman from the bureau said there's a need to provide additional isolation units at Kai Tak because the quarantine facility in Penny’s Bay – also operated by the task force – has reached 80 percent of its capacity.
The Kai Tak facility, which caters for Covid patients with no or mild symptoms, provides over 2,700 units, including some large rooms for big families, and accessible units for persons with disabilities.
“To enhance the services provided for the occupants, both the Penny's Bay and the Kai Tak [community isolation facilities] adopt a small-district management approach to provide speedy services,” the statement wrote.
"Designated personnel are also assigned to handle care hotlines and visits in respective zones in order to provide services in a people-oriented manner."
