Pro-Beijing lawmaker Junius Ho has accused his pro-democracy rivals of playing "senseless" pranks that jeopardise Hong Kong's development.

Speaking on RTHK's Letter to Hong Kong, Ho accused the democratic camp of putting their own interests ahead of the people's -- by senselessly opposing everything, from legislation to ban disrespect of the national anthem to the government's decision not to prosecute former Chief Executive CY Leung over undeclared payments he received from an engineering firm UGL.

"The legislators representing the democratic camp often use the legislature as a platform to advance their political agendas," he said. "A case in point is their attempt to force an investigation into the UGL incident and to challenge the Secretary for Justice's prosecution power."

Ho said these were examples of unreasonable ploys to pursue political gains through, what he described as, the abuse of public resources. He said legislators were entrusted with the responsibility to look after the interest of Hong Kong and to ensure that the government functions effectively.
