The group that operates the June 4 Museum says the venue in Mong Kok has been vandalised, weeks before it was scheduled to reopen to the public. The Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China says there's been an apparent break-in, and saltwater was poured into electrical sockets.
Alliance chairman Albert Ho says security will be beefed up ahead of the museum's opening on April 26.
"This sort of damage is done intentionally to show the dislike of the museum," he said. "I think it is politically motivated. There's no doubt about it that this act of damage is an act of intrusion into the museum was to try to damage the premises, to try to damage the exhibition materials, so as to cause a delay to the opening of the premises."
The museum commemorates those who died during the suppression of the pro-democracy protests in Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989.
