Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced on Thursday that she will be taking the Covid-19 vaccine made by mainland company Sinovac.
In a Facebook post, Lam said the vaccination programme to be rolled out next week is a milestone in the city’s anti-epidemic efforts.
She added that she will be going for the Sinovac jab because she had stated earlier that she would take whichever one made it to the territory first.
Sinovac's jabs are expected to arrive on February 19, while the BioNTech vaccines, which are reported to be more effective, are due to arrive later this month.
In her post, Lam also encouraged people to make use of the government’s contact tracing app, saying it has now been downloaded more than a million times.
Restaurants and other businesses are now required to tell their customers to use the app or hand over their contact details.
