Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau said on Thursday that he will seek to "tell the good stories of Hong Kong" when he visits Cambodia this week.

Speaking to reporters at the airport before his departure from Hong Kong, Yau said he will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic ministers consultation meeting to be held on Saturday.

He said discussions will be held on the progress of the implementation of the free trade agreement and related investment agreement between ASEAN and Hong Kong.

Yau also said he plans to hold meetings with other ministers to exchange views on regional cooperation and issues of mutual interest.

"I hope to take this opportunity to secure ASEAN countries' support on Hong Kong, China's bid to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and tell the good stories of Hong Kong," he said.

On the idea of Hong Kong allowing quarantine-free travel again, he said the government adopts a pragmatic approach on the matter and will make a decision based on science.

Asked whether he will bring up the issue of Hongkongers being scammed and trafficked to Cambodia, he said the matter is being followed by the Security Bureau.

The commerce chief also said that while he is in Phnom Penh, he will attend a luncheon to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

He will return to Hong Kong on Sunday.
