The commission of inquiry looking into the Hung Hom MTR Station scandal on Monday submitted its interim report to the Chief Executive, but the government set no date for its release, saying it will consult the Department of Justice on its publication and other relevant matters.

"We will give careful consideration to the commission's interim report. We also look forward to the early completion of the extended part of the commission's inquiry," Carrie Lam said.

The panel headed by retired judge Michael Hartmann is looking into alleged shoddy construction at the Hung Hom Station extension of the Shatin-Central Link.

The commission was originally tasked with looking at a diaphragm wall and platform slab construction work, as well as systemic issues and was to present its report by February 26.

But its term was extended after the panel was asked to look into reports that contractors had failed to hand in key records when building the station's approach tunnels and secondary tracks.

The commission's final report is now expected by August 30.
