  • Hundreds march against noisy singers in Tuen Mun

Several hundred people have marched to Tuen Mun Park to complain about noisy street performers there.

Chanting slogans as they walked from the San Wo Lane Playground, the protesters said singers at the park had caused noise pollution and disturbed local residents.

They said the situation was getting out of control, as some performers were illegally seeking payment, acting indecently and even prostituting themselves while authorities did nothing to stop them.

The protesters also got into heated arguments with some fans of the performers – or so-called "da ma".

Michael Mo, from the concern group that organised the march, said the park belongs to everybody, not just these performers.

"The lack of enforcement by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is the key cause making this noise pollution out of control," he said.

Mo added that local residents had come out to demonstrate, "to tell them, give us the park with the peace we used to have."
