HSBC Hong Kong announced the launch of it refreshed HSBC HK App on 7 May 2025, set to roll out by phases beginning mid-May 2025. This upgrade will transform how customer manage their daily finances, and aims to offer an intuitive and personalised digital banking experience.
Mobile banking has become an essential platform for customers to access HSBC’s services, evolving significantly over the years.
In 2024, the HSBC HK App saw a 20% growth in active users. Since its major update in 2020, the app has continuously improved, introducing features like a quick 5-minute account opening process and a Lite Mode designed for those less familiar with digital tools.
The latest upgrade represents a substantial investment. Maggie Ng, Head of Wealth and Personal Banking, Hong Kong, HSBC, said,

“The HSBC HK App is a key customer touch point for HSBC. We remain committed to delivering cutting-edge technology that makes banking experience seamless and secure for everyone.”
The refreshed HSBC HK App is guided by a customer-first approach. Through targeted surveys and focused group discussions, customers have shared their insights, directly influencing the development of the refreshed app.
Their feedback has driven a refresh for streamlined navigation and enhanced personalisation, deemed as key pillars in delivering a mobile banking experience.
Kazimierz Kelles-Krauz, Head of Digital Channels, Wealth and Personal Banking, Hong Kong, HSBC, says:

“The latest upgrade features a holistic redesign of our app’s service journey and interface, ensuring easier access to the tools customers need to get the most from mobile banking.”
The redesigned app navigation places all key products and services at the top of the screen, purportedly ensuring quick and easy access with a simple swipe. The homepage now features account favouriting and customisation options for faster actions and seamless access to essentials.
Next, an always-on chatbot sits at the bottom of the screen with speech-to-text functionality and comprehension capabilities. It could deliver faster, more accurate support.
The refreshed HSBC HK App also features a more flexible tech framework, which could allow faster content updates and integration of new features. The technology uplift also purportedly improves performance.
In the second half of the year, the app will introduce more financial planning capabilities and personalised features that offer tailored products and services based on customer habits and needs.
