The Department of Health on Wednesday said a doctor at St Paul's Hospital mistakenly cut out the spleen of a 57-year-old female patient who had a tumour in her kidney.

The department said after looking into information provided by the hospital, it found no evidence suggesting the hospital had violated any relevant laws or guidelines regulating the use of its facilities or manpower.

It said the incident happened on March 25, and it was notified of the incident by the hospital two days later.
