Hong Kong is marking its 25th anniversary with a series of events, including an inauguration ceremony for the sixth term government led by John Lee.
President Xi Jinping is expected to attend the celebrations and oversee the swearing-in of Lee's cabinet at Wan Chai's Convention and Exhibition Centre.
An extensive police security operation to ensure safety has necessitated the closure of roads in the vicinity as officers maintain a strong presence, while Exhibition Centre MTR Station will also be shut until around 2pm to facilitate the activities.
Meanwhile, tram rides and trips on KMB's Route 1 between Tsim Sha Tsui and Chuk Yuen Estate in Wong Tai Sin are free of charge, with the fares paid for by private companies to celebrate the anniversary.
Sun Ferry has also distributed hundreds of free tickets to people to travel to places including Mui Wo and Cheung Chau.
A variety show will be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum in the evening.
