Health authorities on Sunday reported 3,486 new Covid infections, including 173 imported cases.
Officials said 1,122 Covid patients were being treated at public hospitals, and 126 of them were newly admitted. Five patients were in intensive care.
The Hospital Authority said four Covid patients, aged between 71 and 94, died in the past 24 hours. Officials said they all suffered from chronic illnesses.
Responding to experts' suggestion that the daily rapid tests for students and teachers should be scrapped, Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection said the measure should stay as it can prevent positive cases from mixing with those who are not infected.
"At the present moment, we only observe a few clusters of cases among individual classes in some of the schools, around a few a day. So I think this is an effective measure to prevent major outbreaks in the schools and it should be maintained in the meantime," she told a daily press briefing.
Chuang added the measure can prevent all classes at a school from being suspended.
