DAB lawmaker Holden Chow on Friday expressed concern about the implications of a landmark gay rights case.

Speaking a day after the city's top court ruled in favour of a gay couple in a landmark rights case, Chow said he respected the court's judgment, but was worried about traditional family values.

In its judgement on Thursday, the Court of Final Appeal ruled that the government cannot deny spousal benefits to the partners of gay civil servants and the right to joint tax assessment.

Chow said adoption of children could be redefined as a right according to the principle of this judgement.

He cited the hypothetical example of a same-sex couple from the SAR travelling overseas to get married and then demanding the right to adopt on their return.

"That would actually cause a very huge impact upon the traditional family system of Hong Kong," Chow said.
