The Observatory says it cancelled the Amber rainstorm warning at 4.05am on Saturday, but the thunderstorm warning remains in effect.

It issued the Amber rainstorm warning at 2.50am.

It said rain had been particularly heavy in the Sai Kung District, where more than 70 millimetres of rain was recorded in one hour, and warned that this could cause serious flooding.

The Observatory has urged members of the public to take the necessary precautions.

It also warned people to stay away from watercourses because of possible flash floods.
