The north runway at Hong Kong International Airport has reopened after a Singapore Airlines cargo flight made an emergency landing on Friday night.

Flight SQ7858, en route to Shanghai from Singapore, requested permission to land in Hong Kong after a smoke alarm went off. It landed safely just before 11 pm.

Police said officers from the Fire Services Department inspected the plane but found no signs of fire or smoke, concluding it had been a false alarm.

The incident led to the temporary closure of the north runway and nine incoming flights were diverted to the south runway.

The cargo flight had two people on board.
