A new payment system for motorists using the Tsing Sha Control Area will come into operation at 5am on February 26, transport officials announced on Wednesday.
The "HKeToll" will replace the manual toll booths and autotoll lanes for the Eagle Nest Tunnel, Sha Tin Heights Tunnel and Tai Wai Tunnel.
Journeys will be logged through a tag attached to vehicle windscreens, or via automatic number plate recognition technology. Fees will be deducted automatically, or a bill sent to the vehicle's owner.
The Transport Department said the new system will put an end to motorists having to queue up at toll booths.
It urged drivers who haven't applied for the tag to do so as soon as possible.
The department added that the three tunnels and their connecting roads will be temporarily closed from 2am to 5am on February 26, so the toll booths can be closed and traffic signs amended.
The HKeToll system is expected to be introduced at all government tunnels this year.
