The Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, says she believes Hong Kong will “rise above all challenges” and “scale new heights” as the city prepares to ring in the Year of the Ox.
Speaking in a minute-long video message released on Thursday – the last day of the Year of the Rat – Lam said Hongkongers are all looking forward to a fresh start after having gone through an exceptionally challenging year.
"This year is the Year of the Ox. The ox is a symbol of diligence and perseverance. I believe that as long as we stand united and work together with perseverance, Hong Kong can certainly rise above all challenges, emerge stronger and scale new heights,” she said.
Delivering her speech wearing a red Chinese dress and a burgundy-coloured jacket, the CE also urged people to reduce gatherings and enjoy a quiet festival, and extend their greetings to family and friends with the help of technology.
"I wish you all a harmonious, auspicious and healthy Year of the Ox," she added.
