  • HK reports 4,439 new coronavirus infections

Hong Kong on Friday reported 4,439 new coronavirus infections, including 217 imported cases.

Another 230 Covid patients had been admitted to hospital for treatment, including 23 children below the age of three.

At present, 1,565 Covid patients are being treated in public hospitals – nine of whom are in intensive care.

Four more patients infected with Covid have passed away. They were aged between 80 and 82.

Meanwhile, officials said they are working to ensure the LeaveHomeSafe system is running smoothly, after media reports said some people with the blue code on their app were barred from certain venues.

People complained that even though they had already completed four days of home surveillance and their health code had turned to blue, scanners still showed they were amber.

Deputy Government Chief Information Officer, Tony Wong, said officials have looked into the issue.

"We already assessed and investigated our system to ensure that the code changes operation is operating normally and correctly to ensure that concerned people would receive the correct coloured QR code in order to enter these venues," he said.

"I also want to appeal to venue operator... they must update the code scanning mobile app to the latest version in order to ensure that it can correctly access the customers' QR code colours in order to allow them to enter the premises."
