Hong Kong will celebrate the historic success of its Olympians with a bus parade on Thursday morning.

The city's athletes, coaches and other delegation members will ride in two open-top buses through the city.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the government said the public can cheer the athletes as they travel from Hung Hom to the Xiqu Centre of the West Kowloon Cultural District, where they will attend a welcoming ceremony hosted by Chief Executive Carrie Lam.

Officials said Nathan Road and Canton Road are the best viewing locations, and the buses are due to arrive there at around 9.40 am.

“Members of the public are welcome to greet and cheer for the Hong Kong athletes to show their support at the above locations and share the joy of the athletes who successfully challenged themselves and obtained remarkable results,” the statement said.

Authorities also reminded the public to maintain social distancing during the parade.

The planned celebration comes after the city recorded its best-ever Olympics performance with a record haul of six medals, which include one gold for fencer Edgar Cheung, two silvers for swimmer Siobhan Haughey and three bronzes for karate-ka Grace Lau, cyclist Sarah Lee and table tennis players Doo Hoi-kem, Minnie Soo and Lee Ho-ching.
