The Department of Health said on Thursday that it’s investigating a case of suspected mould contamination of a pharmaceutical product named Enzyplex following a report from Queen Mary Hospital.
Enzyplex is an over-the-counter medicine to treat digestive disorders.
The Department of Health said a cancer patient took the drug named Enzyplex, and the hospital subsequently found mould in her stool.
The patient later died, but the hospital said this was unrelated to the drug, and mould was not found in her body.
The department said members of the public who have consumed the product or feel unwell should consult a doctor.
The department said the product was manufactured in Indonesia and supplied to the Hospital Authority, Department of Health clinics, private doctors, pharmacies and also re-exported to Macau.
