Helena Wong speaks to RTHK's Frances Sit

Lawmakers say primary school heads should get better management training, as the government plans to increase headteacher salaries by up to HK$23,000 a month.

The current cap of HK$93,000 for larger schools could be lifted to as much as HK$116,000 a month under the government's proposal.

While most lawmakers in the Legislative Council support the move, several are concerned about the performance of some headteachers in the city.

One of them, the Democratic Party's Helena Wong, told RTHK's Frances Sit that some heads may not be using their powers responsibly when it comes to managing their schools and teachers.

This comes after concerns were raised recently about the suicide of a teacher at her school in Tin Shui Wai.
