The Hospital Authority (HA) on Sunday said some concrete had fallen from a ceiling at a Castle Peak Hospital ward back in November last year, but no one was injured.

The revelation came amid recent cases involving a fallen surgical light and the breaking of a ceiling hoist track used to carry patients at other public hospitals.

Responding to media enquiries almost four months after the concrete incident, the HA said pipe leakage on the floor above might have caused the problem.

It said a contractor had completed repairs in early December last year, and a building inspection consultant had finished checking other parts of the Castle Peak Hospital.

It noted that the consultant had conducted a full inspection back in late 2021 and found no structural problems.

The authority said it's highly concerned about the case and it's very unhappy with the work of the consultant, adding that the firm’s performance will be referenced if it bids for HA projects in future.

It also said it will follow up the matter and consider taking further action if rules are found to have been breached.
