Chief Secretary John Lee on Sunday said people need to beware of what he called "irresponsible speculation" on social media concerning mainland health workers who came to Hong Kong to help take care of Covid patients.
He said people should be on alert for the "misleading messages with ulterior motives" to avoid damaging the good relations between Hong Kong and the mainland.
Writing on his blog, Lee said mainland medical personnel were communicating closely with the Hospital Authority regarding work arrangements. He stressed the two teams were collaborating well and supporting each other.
The chief secretary said the mainland health workers came from some of the top hospitals in Guangdong province and are described as the country's elite in the fight against Covid, and their experience could help Hong Kong.
Lee added society should double down on fighting on the epidemic.
"We can't self-destruct the Great Wall," he wrote on his blog.
Hundreds of mainland medics are working at the AsiaWorld-Expo to help take care of Covid patients.
