A democracy activist known as "Grandma Wong" was sentenced to one month in prison on Wednesday, after a magistrate convicted her of attacking a security guard at the High Court in January 2019.
Eastern Magistracy found Alexandra Wong, 65, guilty of common assault, after she pushed the security guard when she was asked to stop for a security check at the lobby.
Magistrate Edward Wong said the case was serious, as the defendant's assault was intentional and wasn't out of self-defence.
The court must protect its staff, especially security guards who are carrying out frontline duties, the magistrate said.
The defendant is well-known for her frequent participation in pro-democracy protests and appearances outside courts to show support for those on trial. She is usually seen waving a British flag.
