A student has been sent to a training centre for vandalising the Tsuen Wan office of pro-Beijing lawmaker Junius Ho in 2019.

Anson Chu, 20, was put into detention on Wednesday after a second appeal by the Department of Justice (DOJ) against his earlier punishments.

Chu, who has been diagnosed with Hyperactivity Disorder, had earlier pleaded guilty to smashing the glass walls at Ho's office on July 22, 2019.

The day before Ho had been caught on video shaking hands with a group of men in Yuen Long, around the time of a vicious gang attack on passengers at the town's MTR station.

Chu was originally put on probation for 12 months by Sha Tin Magistracy, but was later sentenced to 200 hours of community service following an appeal by the DOJ.

But prosecutors still thought that the punishment was too lenient, and applied for a review of the sentence for a second time – finally winning a detention order for the student.

The pro-government lawmaker, for his part, said he had received a letter of apology from Chu, adding that he accepts the young man's apology.

"I hope you'll become a good and useful man in future, and do great things for the society," Ho wrote in reply.
