Security Secretary Chris Tang said on Friday that a Hong Kong resident who refused to go to an isolation facility after testing positive for Covid in a rapid test may be prosecuted.
Tang said officials on Thursday visited 79 infected people who were reluctant to move to an isolation site, and one of them still refused to go.
"We are reviewing the evidence, we may prosecute the person by issuing a summons later on," the security minister said on an RTHK radio programme.
Tang said although some of the city's isolation facilities are better than the others, people should be prepared to stay in any of them.
He said the authorities conduct risk assessments to decide if people with Covid need to be sent to a facility, adding that that home isolation is only "a transitional arrangement".
He stressed that it's everyone's responsibility to fight the pandemic so that society can return to normal.
