Clean Air Network has welcomed Hong Kong's first low-emission ferry service but says the government should invest more money to transform in-harbour vessels to electric.
The Star Ferry Company changed one boat, the Morning Star, into a diesel-electric ferry on the route between Wanchai and Tsim Sha Tsui.
The government contributed HK$3 million of the HK$8 million cost.
The chief executive of Clean Air Network, Patrick Fung, urged the government to subsidise more green initiatives to reduce the cost to commuters and speed up the process.
He said the government should look at electric ferries and had to consider paying even more to get transport operators on board.
