Chief Executive John Lee said on Tuesday his administration is actively studying changes to Covid rules for inbound travelers so as to create the maximum connection with the rest of the world.
Some health experts, including government pandemic advisor Yuen Kwok-yung, have called on officials to ease restrictions and replace mandatory quarantine with coronavirus tests.
Speaking ahead of his weekly Executive Council meeting, Lee said authorities are aware of a drop in local Covid infections in the SAR, adding that they are looking into the possibility of adjusting the so-called "three plus four" isolation policy for arrivals.
"While we will do our best to control the epidemic, we aim to have the maximum connection with the international world, and also to reduce the inconvenience to people who arrive at Hong Kong. That is a very clear goal," he said.
"As we progress to allow more activities, we do it in an orderly way, so that when people go through the process, they feel comfortable with the process, and we will reduce the inconvenience as much as we can."
However, the CE stopped short of giving further details, only to say the government will make announcement when a decision is made.
