Hong Kong has been feeling the brunt of Severe Tropical Storm Kompasu, as it moved nearer to the SAR overnight, causing minor flooding in some areas

In Heng Fa Chuen, seawater overflowed onto the waterfront promenade from midnight - flooding the coastal walk.

Some members of the public shrugged off the conditions and ventured out to watch the spectacle.

Areas along the Shing Mun River in Sha Tin were also flooded, including the riverside promenade, cycleways and pedestrian tunnels.

Flooding from the river damaged some garbage bins, and the water reached waist height in some pedestrian tunnels.

In the village of Sam Ka Tsuen in Lei Yue Mun, villagers waded through knee-high water.

Sam Ka Tsuen - along with Heng Fa Chuen - suffered serious flooding during Typhoon Hato in 2017

As of 1am on Wednesday, authorities said they had received 15 reports of fallen trees, but no reports of landslides.

Five people have been treated at public hospitals for injuries sustained during the typhoon, and one of them died.

The Home Affairs Department has opened 24 temporary shelters and 209 people had sought refuge.
