  • FTU receives complaints over amber code work problems

Unionist legislator Luk Chung-hung said on Friday that he has received a small number of complaints and enquiries in relation to workers with an amber Covid code being told not to return to work or having their pay docked.

Current rules state that after inbound travellers spend three nights in hotel quarantine, they are allowed to go work but are banned from visiting certain premises during a four-day medical surveillance period, during which they have an amber health code.

The Federation of Trade Unions councillor said employers don't need to worry too much as the risks of Covid transmission are manageable and the arrangements strike a balance between returning to normalcy and epidemic protection.

Luk told an RTHK programme that even if bosses tell staff not to come to work, they are still required by law to pay them.

"We have communicated with some employers and told them that if they are really worried, they can ask the staff to work in positions that don't require much contact with customers. It's one of the solutions," he said.

"They shouldn't tell the workers not to come back to work and deduct their salaries or annual leave days. These actions aren't appropriate."
