Chief Inspector Hui Hong-kit

Police on Tuesday said they had arrested a woman after four members of her family were injured in a shooting inside Quarry Bay Park, in Taikoo Shing.

Police said the victims were two men and two women aged between 50 and 72. It's believed they are brothers and sisters.

More than one had been shot in the head, with the others shot in the arm.

All four were taken to hospital and all appeared to be in a conscious state. At least one of them was later undergoing surgery at Eastern Hospital.

Chief Inspector Hui Hong-kit told a press briefing that a woman was arrested nearby. Sources told RTHK she is the niece of those injured.

"Officers of the counter-terrorism response unit arrested a 44-year-old lady. We believe the lady to be the assailant and we recovered a firearm from her possession," Hui said.

Heavily armed officers swarmed into the park after the incident at around 3pm. The park is close to many office towers, a popular shopping mall and a major residential development.

Speaking in Beijing, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said she was very concerned to hear about the incident, noting that shootings such as this are very rare in Hong Kong.
